OSSA Coaches Conference

Did you know National Coaches Week is September 22-30, 2018? Join your fellow coaches for 1.5 days of workshops. Certified coaches can earn up to 3 Professional Development Points. 

Registration is now open for the annual OSSA Coaches Conference which will be held in Barrie at Horseshoe Resort on September 22 & 23, 2018. 

Some rooms have been reserved at Horseshoe Resort for a negotiated price. Coaches are responsible for the cost of their accommodations. Please call the Reservations Department at 1-800-461-5627 and identify yourself as part of the Ontario Speed Skating group.

Reservation requests must be made by Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 in order to qualify for our group rate.

Room rate: $139 +tax + %6 resort fee/night 
Conference Cost: $90
OSSA will provide lunch and snacks on both Saturday and Sunday.

OSSA is Hiring!

The OSSA is looking for a High Performance Director and a Sport Manager. Detailed job descriptions can be found by clicking on the job title below.

HIGH PEFORMANCE DIRECTOR
 
The Ontario Speed Skating Association, the provincial governing body for the sport of speed skating in Ontario, is seeking a part-time High Performance Director (HPD). The High Performance Director (HPD) is responsible for developing Learn to Compete and Train to Compete athletes and coaches, and supporting OSSA’s multi-year High Performance Management Plan through the NextGEN Provincial Training Program, a program designed to improve high performance at national events, Canada Winter Games, and preparation for athlete acceptance into a National Training Centre.
 

SPORT MANAGER (part-time)

 
The Sport Manager will be responsible for providing operational support for the initiatives of the High Performance Program, the OSSA Technical Committee as well as the Coaching Development Committee and the Officials Development Committee.  The responsibilities include support in program development, execution, monitoring and analysis in both speed skating disciplines. This includes programming for speed skaters, coaches, parents and officials, throughout the province.  The Sport Manager will oversee the management of athletes who represent Ontario at competitions across Canada and will support the implementation of the Long Term Participant and Athlete Development Model and OSSA’s competition model in Ontario. 


The OSSA is looking for team players with strong leadership skills and excellent management, planning, organizational and relationship building skills.

Masters Camp - Ottawa 2018 UPDATE

Join us for a fun weekend in preparation for the next speed skating season! Hosted by Gail Bouchette and Hilles Hamersley of the Ottawa Pacers!

Dates: Saturday, August 4 to Monday, August 6, 2018

Location: Bob McQuarrie Recreation Complex, 1490 Youville Dr., Orléans, ON
Cost: $290/skater, or $250 if you register by July 9

Open to adult speed skaters of all abilities. Older youth skaters may be considered if space is available.

The camp will focus on technical principles of stability, power, and efficiency in speed skating. The lessons will be appropriate to all levels of masters skaters - it’s never too early to learn the foundations of good technique, and you’re never too advanced to find efficiency gains!
